Derek Blamire (82) and his wife Sylvia (80) from Blackburn (UK) constantly have rats in their garden. For seven years, the senior tries to control the plague and has set up a large number of traps. He has already managed to catch 50 animals. Now the Brit has apparently captured the king of rats. The animal must be exceptionally large. About 45 centimeters. “As long as a little baby,” Blamire told the Daily Mail.
When he saw the rodent in the poison trap, he called his wife. “Come out with your phone, I have something to show you.” When his wife saw the rat, she was terrified.
After the brief shock, she took the photo as evidence and her husband held the dead animal in front of the camera. Derek, an avid gardener, thinks the rats are attracted to the birdseed he hands out. Jackdaws, starlings, magpies, sparrows, robins and wrens would come into his garden. But so are the rats. And he just can’t get rid of it.
“You will come back”
Despite the many traps, the animals continued to run around. So to get the rat problem under control, Derek stopped feeding the birds for the time being. “I haven’t fed the birds for a week, so the rats are hungry.”
This made it easier to lure them into the traps. Because the rodents are smart and have understood that he is marketing poison bait. With the giant rat he caught the last animal for the time being. “I haven’t seen anyone for a few days,” the Briton said. Yet he does not trust the peace. ‘You will come back. They can disappear for a few weeks and then suddenly reappear.” (lrc)
