According to media reports, Elon Musk has acquired Twitter for $44 million. With him come some changes: for example, he announced that verification (ie the blue tick) will be subject to a fee in the future. This is especially available for famous personalities.
Some celebrities have already turned their backs on the platform – or plan to do so in the near future. Here are their reasons:
Actor Josh Gad
Great exodus is happening on this platform. I’m not sure if I’m staying or not. Tendency to stay, but if today is a sign of things to come, I don’t know what the point is. Freedom of speech is great. Hate speech intended to cause harm, (without consequences) is not what I signed up for.

“There is a big exodus going on on this platform right now. I don’t know if I’m staying or not. I tend to stay, but if today is a sign of things to come, I don’t see the point anymore. Freedom of speech is fantastic. Hate speech intended to hurt (without consequences) is not what I signed up for.”
The ‘Beauty and the Beast’ actor has been busy tweeting ever since.
Actress Jameela Jamil
Actress Jameela Jamil already announced in April that she would leave the platform if Elon Musk took over. And she stayed true to her word. In her last post she wrote:
“Ah, he has Twitter. With this I want to end my last tweet. I fear that this ‘freedom of speech’ prohibition will eventually lead to lawless hatred, bigotry and misogyny on this platform.”
Film director Rob Reiner
For those fighting to preserve our constitutional democracy, now is not the time to leave Twitter. Now it’s time to VOTE BLUE!

“For those who fight for our constitutional democracy, now is the time to leave Twitter. Now is the time to vote blue (i.e. the Democrats, CoR).»
The “Wolf of Wall Street” executive still posts on Twitter, most recently due to the upcoming US midterms.
Actor Ken Olin
day @Elon Musk takes ownership of @twitter I am gone. Not that that means much. But I just wanted to point it out. G’night.
— Ken Olin (@kenolin1) October 22, 2022
Actor and director Ken Olin announced his departure from Twitter a while ago in the event of a Musk takeover: “The day Elon Musk takes over Twitter, I’ll be gone. Not like that means much. I just wanted to make it clear. Good night .”

On Friday, when that day came, he wrote:
“Hello everyone, then I’m gone. No judgment. Let’s keep the faith. Let’s protect our democracy. Let’s try to be nicer. Let’s try to save the planet. Let’s try to be more generous. Let’s make peace in find the world.” He hasn’t posted anything on his Twitter account since then.

Singer Sara Bareilles
Singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles is also fed up with Twitter now that it’s owned by Elon Musk.
