Foxconn employees flee Corona lockdown from Migros, Coop and Co buildings: the nine largest retailers show how they save electricity

Foxconn employees have had enough.

In China, employees of Apple supplier Foxconn have fled after a corona lockdown.

Numerous videos of workers leaving the company’s factory site in the eastern Chinese metropolis of Zhengzhou circulated on social media over the weekend. You could see people sometimes climbing fences and escaping across fields with suitcases and stuff.

The city government later released a statement saying that the Taiwanese company Foxconn had promised to improve living and working conditions for all workers who chose to stay. For others, orderly transport must be arranged.

The factory in Zhengzhou, which employs several hundred thousand people during normal times, is one of the main production sites for Apple’s iPhones. In recent days, there have been reports of extremely bad conditions after strict corona measures were imposed in parts of the city.

Employees were therefore no longer allowed to leave the building, but had to continue to work. Workers also complained about food supply problems.

The Chinese economy is suffering from the fact that Beijing does not want to abandon its strict ‘zero corona policy’. The purpose of this is to nip any outbreak of the virus in the bud. (sda/dpa)
