Former US President Donald Trump (76) is happy that Elon Musk has taken over Twitter. Trump writes on the online platform Truth Social, of which he co-founded: “I am very happy that Twitter is now in good hands.”
He then explains his position. Twitter will no longer be run by “radical leftist lunatics and lunatics who really hate our country”.
Trump banned from Twitter
Trump’s main account @realDonaldTrump was blocked on Twitter nearly two years ago, shortly before his departure as US president. The background was tweets about the storming of the US Capitol in the US capital Washington by supporters of the ex-president.
The company justified the move at the time with the “risk of further incitement to violence” by Trump. According to media reports, it is still unclear whether Trump should regain access to Twitter.
Musk wants ban lifted
In May, the multibillionaire caused a stir by announcing that he wanted to reverse Trump’s ban on Twitter.
Musk completed the acquisition of Twitter on Thursday and promptly fired several of the company’s executives. According to Bloomberg, Musk himself wants to take over the top post on Twitter. (EU)
