Former US President Donald Trump (77) paid $175 million in bail on Monday in connection with his civil fraud lawsuit in New York. This is reported by the AP news agency.
An appeals court in New York had significantly reduced the amount of security required after his conviction in the fraud trial. Trump was supposed to put up $454 million, but his lawyers said he couldn’t raise that much money.
Trump had ten days to post bail.
If Trump fails in his appeal, he will have to pay the state the full amount, which will accrue interest daily. If Trump wins, the money he has now deposited will be returned. (neo)
