Doctors and hospitals worked to the limit, especially during the corona pandemic. The general practice of Katrin Wiesener from Baden-Württemberg (D) was no exception. In 2021 and 2022 she treated a large number of patients; too much, according to the Association of Statutory Health Insurers (KV).
They demand reimbursement of part of the fee paid and sent the GP a fine of several thousand euros on January 18. This leaves many questions unanswered for the doctor. “I don’t even know if the recovery applies quarterly or in total,” Wiesener told “Südkurier”.
The problem: the fixed treatment time
The Municipal Supply Association of Baden-Württemberg (KVBW) does not give her time to act – the second threat of reimbursement is already waiting for the doctor. The new accusation: she is also said to have exceeded her term in the first six months of 2023.
According to the “Südkurier” the problem lies in the flat treatment time. Each patient should be treated for a minimum of ten minutes. The limit is 780 working hours per quarter. Too many patients or too much time: all this is considered suspicious by the KVBW. But the doctor denies all allegations of fraud. “I know I’m over the limit. But I wasn’t charged for something I didn’t do.”

She still remembers the Corona period when she was in practice almost every day to remove people’s uncertainty. She generally does not turn away people who come to her with a request. “I could take on five to ten new patients every day. “But my practice has been reaching its limits for quite some time,” says the doctor.
Kai Sonntag, press spokesperson for the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Doctors in Stuttgart, can only give a superficial answer to the “Südkurier” question as to why Wiesener’s fee is being deducted at all. “If a service is billed statistically frequently, it is checked whether these time values are at all plausible.” The doctor can then comment on the allegations. Katrin Wiesener wants to do that too. If the KV still stands by its decision, it will only treat private patients. In other words: 1,200 health insurance fund patients will lose their doctor. (mgf)
