This sweet Labrador is stuck – firefighters rescue him (with great sensitivity) Container ship rams three cranes in Turkish port – one injured

Members of the Franklinville, New Jersey, Volunteer Fire Department were recently called to a somewhat unusual mission. Eleven-month-old Labrador Lady Daisy had squeezed into a spare car tire lying around and was stuck. The rescue required a lot of creativity – and sensitivity – from the firefighters:

The rescuers were unable to pull the dog from the tire with water and dish soap. An attempt with vegetable oil also failed. As a last resort, one of the firefighters suggested cutting the edge with his personal plasma cutter. So the dog was driven to his garage on a ladder truck, complete with a band around her head.

All’s well that ends well

Over the nerve-wracking five minutes that followed, Daisy was gently freed. To protect the animal, it was wrapped in fire blankets. Sparks flew and the dog panicked a bit, according to a firefighter, but eventually the edge came loose.

Daisy is now safe and sound back with her owner. The two visited the fire brigade again after the rescue and the owner is even considering joining the volunteer fire brigade. (lso)
