British-American director Christopher Nolan and his wife Emma Thomas are honored with a knighthood. This is evident from a statement from the British government published on Thursday. Nolan (53), who recently received an Oscar for the film ‘Oppenheimer’ is therefore promoted to Knight Bachelor, the oldest order of knighthood in Great Britain. Emma Thomas (52) is appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire. In Great Britain, knighthoods and other honors are awarded by the royal family at the suggestion of the government.
The couple, who now have four children, met while studying at University College London (UCL). Together they founded the production company Syncopy, with which they produced a series of successful films. The historical drama about the ‘father of the atomic bomb’, the American physicist Robert Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy, won a total of seven Oscars this year. (saw/sda/dpa)
