Former US President Donald Trump has been muzzled. A judge ruled that the Republican cannot publicly comment on witnesses, attorneys, jurors and other court personnel. The lawsuit concerns the hush money payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels.
Trump can talk about the judge and the district attorney in Manhattan. From the judge’s point of view, this step is necessary because “the suspect’s previous extrajudicial statements pose a sufficient risk to the administration of justice” and “no less restrictive means exist to prevent this risk.”
Judge criticizes Trump’s statements
The judge cited Trump’s previous statements and attacks ‘threatening, inflammatory’ and ‘derogatory’. Similar statements would therefore “undoubtedly run the risk of impeding the good administration of the Court”.
Trump’s then private lawyer Michael Cohen is said to have paid Stormy Daniels $130,000 shortly before the 2016 presidential election. Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, claims he had an affair with Trump years before the election, which he denies. The trial starts on April 15.
