Man stabs five people in Italy – one dead, football professional Mari injures Russia treats with false evidence – the night update with no photos

In the Milan municipality of Assago, a man stabbed several people with a knife in a shopping center. A 30-year-old store employee succumbed to his injuries, Lombardy region president Attilio Fontana wrote on Facebook on Thursday evening. At least four others were injured.

According to Italian media, professional football player Pablo Mari, who is under contract with Monza, is one of the seriously injured victims. The 29-year-old is currently in Niguarda Hospital and undergoing intensive treatment there. Monza CEO Adriano Galliani told Rai TV that Mari had a deep wound on her shoulder but was conscious. He also suffered no injuries to vital organs.

The Spaniard joined Arsenal’s Monza, which is not far from Assago, earlier this season. The suspected perpetrator, a 46-year-old man, has been arrested. The background is currently unclear, a terrorist motive has been ruled out. According to media reports, the perpetrator is said to have psychological problems. (dab)
