Serial killer appeared on television – while the search for him was being conducted, guessing at Chinese lunar satellites

A French serial killer appears to have felt very safe for years. Françoise Verove topped the wanted list in the 1980s. He was charged with murder and rape. After eyewitnesses saw him at a crime scene, they described the man as the “pockmarked one.” But even with this description, the police were in the dark for a long time.

Being a police officer himself, he was apparently able to evade investigators for a long time because he was aware of their methods. Now a book reveals how safe the multiple perpetrator felt. A journalist from the magazine “Marianne” even discovered an appearance on a quiz show.

DNA led to the police officer

There, the then 57-year-old presented himself as an older gentleman who even talked about his work in the police. At the same time, his colleagues were looking for the then unknown perpetrator, who had chosen young girls and women as victims. The police only discovered him in 2021 when they suspected that the killer might come from their own ranks.

Researchers began collecting DNA profiles. Vero probably suspected that he would soon be arrested and took his own life in his apartment. In his farewell letter, Verove explained that after his marriage and the birth of his children after 1997, he ‘did nothing more’. The murders took place between 1980 and 1994.

Based on the DNA profiles, two murders and three rapes could be attributed to him. Other murders and violent crimes would also fall under his responsibility.
