The Russian news portal Baza wrote on Telegram:

“He stayed in his office for several hours and did not answer his phone. The employees decided to go to his office and found his body. The top manager died of asphyxiation – suicide. He had been with the company for about thirty years.”

The company’s board of directors had already called for an end to the war in Ukraine in March 2022. Lukoil produces about 2 percent of the world’s crude oil. The company has suffered greatly from the US sanctions against Russia. There were no EU sanctions.

Robertus is the fourth Lukoil manager to die under mysterious circumstances since the start of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine.
