The case of a youth gang that allegedly sexually abused a girl (12) for months has caused horror in our neighboring country. A case that occurred in Salzburg also made headlines. There, a youth group attacked two girls (15,16). Now there is another case of rape among children.

In a village in Carinthia, a girl (11) was allegedly tied up and raped. This is reported by “Oe24”. The perpetrator is said to be a Ukrainian (14). He is said to have fled Ukraine as a refugee with his mother and siblings shortly after the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The crime is said to have taken place during a youth camp. As Tina Frimmel-Hesse, spokeswoman for the Klagenfurt Public Prosecutor’s Office, says in the ‘Oe24’ report, the Ukrainian is accused of abusing the defenseless child. An acquaintance (13) of the suspected perpetrator, probably also a Ukrainian, is also said to have filmed the crime.

The girl’s parents filed a complaint after she confided in them. The police have found the suspected perpetrator. He had been arrested. The boy was detained for five weeks, but has now been released – because a request to extend his detention was rejected. However, he is not allowed to have contact with his colleague and the victim’s family.

Unlike in Switzerland, where people from the age of ten can be prosecuted for crimes, young people in Austria are only legally responsible from the age of 14. Means: The accomplice remains unpunished. The alleged rapist is charged, among other things, with rape and serious coercion. The first day of the trial is expected to take place in April. The possible penalty: up to five years in prison.
