Authorities say at least one person was killed and two others injured when a transport helicopter made an emergency landing in Russia’s far east. A total of 20 people were on board the Mi-8 plane that crashed in the Magadan region, a spokesman for Russia’s aviation authority Rosawiazija said on Thursday. According to media reports, these were miners. The cause of the accident was initially unknown.
There was initially little information about the fate of most of the prisoners. According to the aviation authority, two helicopters with medics have already been sent to the scene of the accident. However, the rescue and search efforts were complicated by the current weather conditions, the spokesperson explained. (rbu/sda/dpa)
