It’s an evening at a French quiz like any other: host Nagui Fam chats relaxed with the guests in the show “Tout le monde veut pendre sa place”, including a gentleman he introduces as “François”. They are joking, ‘François’ talks about his life as a police officer.
The show will be broadcast in February 2019. What no one knows: It is not just any man in the studio, but the then 57-year-old François Vérove (1962 – 2021), a wanted serial rapist and serial killer. The French magazine “Marianne” reports the appearance of the murderer, who felt so safe that he did not hide.
Raped several girls
This despite the fact that the police were still looking for the ‘pockmarked man’, as the ghost was dubbed by the press. Between 1980 and 1994, several girls were kidnapped and raped in the Paris area, without the perpetrator being caught. However, one witness reported noticeable acne scars on his face. He is also responsible for at least three murders.
The police suspected quite early that the murderer and rapist might be a police officer. In 2021, she made another attempt to solve the case and summoned hundreds of police officers who were on duty in the region at the time for DNA comparison.
After Vérove was summoned, he apparently suspected that the evidence would convict him. He said goodbye to his wife, drove to a rented apartment on the coast and committed suicide there. In his suicide note to his wife, he confessed that he had “an insane rage” that had turned him into a criminal. There were times when he couldn’t take it anymore and had to ‘destroy, defile and kill’ an innocent person. (neo)
