Jaylen J.* (25) was robbed at gunpoint. So the American decided to buy his own gun for protection. That decision proved fatal this week.
On Thursday, Jaylen’s mother Monica M.* († 56) wanted to come over. As the New York Post reports, she tried to open the back door of her son’s house around 7:30 a.m. Because she came in through the back door, Jaylen mistook his mother for a burglar – and promptly shot her with his gun.
The 25-year-old immediately noticed his fatal confusion. His girlfriend, who was also in the house, took life-saving measures. But she hadn’t succeeded. Jaylen’s mother died at the scene at his home in Olivette, a St. Louis suburb.
“He won’t stop crying”
After the incident, the public prosecutor charged Jaylen J. with manslaughter and armed criminal action. “He won’t stop crying,” said the young man’s lawyer.
According to the lawyer, his client called the emergency number immediately after the accident. He works and has never been guilty of anything. Bail was set at $100,000. (obf)
