The speech starts at 3 a.m. Swiss time
In prime time in the US, Joe Biden will start his speech to Congress at 9 p.m. (3 a.m. Swiss time). He is expected to speak for about an hour.
In the middle of the American election campaign, President Joe Biden (81) gives the traditional State of the Union address to Congress in Washington. Every year, American presidents inform the Senate and House of Representatives about their priorities and plans in the ‘State of the Union’ speech.
The 81-year-old Biden’s primetime appearance will likely be aimed in no small part at refuting widespread criticism that he is too old and not dynamic enough for a second term. He is also likely to call on opposition Republicans to abandon their block on new billions in aid to Ukraine and an agreement on immigration policy.
Biden is expected to be challenged in the November 5 elections by his predecessor Donald Trump, who all but secured the presidential nomination again after the recent Republican primaries. (neo)
