The drummer of British band Blur, Dave Rowntree, wants to enter parliament for the opposition Labor party at the next election.

“Absolutely delighted to have been chosen as @uklabour candidate for Mid Sussex!” he wrote on Instagram and on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday evening. “Now the work begins.”

The British must elect a new parliament by January 2025; an exact date has not yet been determined. The constituency mentioned by Rowntree is currently held by the Conservative Party, which also forms the government together with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

Britpop band Blur released new music last year for the first time in years. The album “The Ballad Of Darren” was released in the summer. Rowntree, who previously fronted the House of Commons, also released a solo album last year called ‘Radio Songs’. (sda/dpa)
