NATO states practice response to the Russian attack with large-scale maneuvers, while the German Tesla factory is at a standstill after a suspected attack

The German Bundeswehr and soldiers from other NATO countries have been training since midnight in a large-scale exercise in Northern Europe to defend themselves against an attack on alliance territory.

A total of around 1,500 men and women from the German armed forces are taking part in the ‘Nordic Response 2024’ exercise, including 700 mountain troops, as the German army announced in the city of Alta in northern Norway. On Thursday, the soldiers would counterattack from the southern areas of the Alta region, which in this scenario were already occupied by an enemy.

According to Norwegian military information, approximately 20,000 soldiers from 13 allied countries are taking part in the maneuver in Scandinavia. This includes Finland and Sweden, which decided to join the alliance after the Russian attack on Ukraine. NATO states deploy a wide range of weapons systems, including 100 aircraft and naval forces with frigates and submarines.

At the start of the active part of the maneuver, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius (SPD) also traveled to Alta. The day before, he had visited a Norwegian military station on the border with Russia and offered a greater deployment of the Bundeswehr in the far north, even as the world’s current focus is on Ukraine and the Middle East.
