24 children and 1.5 million euros: the German-Nigerian, who goes by the name ‘Mr. Cash” is known, the city of Dortmund is defrauding. Jonathan A.* (44) is said to live in an apartment in Dortmund-Mengede and often travels in Nigeria, the “Ruhrnachrichten” reports.
For years he reportedly told German authorities that he had no money left. At the same time, he also claims to be the father of 24 children in Nigeria, as research by the RBB magazine ‘Kontraste’ revealed at the end of February. In doing so, he kills two birds with one stone: A. can receive a social benefit from the city of Dortmund and gives his children, their mothers and relatives a permanent right to stay in Germany.
30 cases of paternity abuse known
The total social benefits amount to approximately 1.5 million euros. It is unclear how much of this actually goes to mothers and children. According to “Kontraste”, mothers say that the city of Dortmund pays them alimony and not A. An extremely “bizarre” case, as the mayor of Dortmund, Thomas Westphal, describes the whole matter. At the Youth Care Office, which processes all applications from “Mr. ‘Cash Money’ is acknowledged, but he has no doubts about it.
In total, the mayor is said to be aware of about thirty cases in which paternity abuse has been committed. It is unclear how many can be traced back to Jonathan A.
‘Poor men’ become fake fathers
That this is not a new scam will be shown by the ‘NZZ’ in 2023: ‘Poverty men’ who cost German citizens millions every year with their false paternity. Due to the false recognition of paternity, mothers, who usually have many children, are entitled to social benefits in Germany. The recognized children also receive German citizenship.
In general, paternity recognition is a controversial topic. Especially in Switzerland, many consider the laws to be outdated. When a child is born, the mother’s husband is automatically considered the father in Switzerland. However, if the mother is not married, the father must have the child officially recognized. If the man does not dispute the false paternity before the child is five years old, he remains the father and must pay – even if it later turns out that he is not the biological father.
