After the attack on the power supply at the Tesla factory in Brandenburg, the company commented on the damage. The American electric car manufacturer Tesla estimates the downtime costs after the production stop at several hundred million euros.
“For us, this means economic damage in the order of nine figures,” says factory manager André Thierig. According to information from the German press agency on Wednesday, Thierig is referring to the loss of sales of vehicles that cannot be produced and therefore cannot be sold. The plant manager expected more than 1,000 cars per day to be down and expected a loss of production at least this week.
Tesla’s Model Y is produced in Grünheide. The sales price for this is between approximately 45,000 euros and just under 60,000 euros. Unknown perpetrators set fire to a high-voltage pylon, which is also responsible for the electricity supply of the Tesla factory. The factory was evacuated and production came to a standstill for the time being.
Tesla expects production to be down for a few more days. Tens of thousands of residents in the region were temporarily affected by a power outage. The left-wing extremist ‘Vulkan Group’ claimed responsibility for the attack. The Brandenburg police classified the confession letter as genuine. The investigators assume that the arson was committed deliberately. (sda/awp/dpa)
