A London auction house has auctioned off several costumes from historical films, including a famous shirt worn by actor Colin Firth from the film adaptation of ‘Pride and Prejudice’. According to the Kerry Taylor Auctions website, the entire costume sold for £20,000 on Tuesday evening. In addition, there are auction costs.
The six-part BBC TV series, which was released in 1995 based on Jane Austen’s novel, is considered a cult in Britain. Firth played Mr. Darcy. In one scene, he jumped into a lake with his clothes on, swam through the water, then trudged through a meadow with his top wet and met Elizabeth Bennet, played by Jennifer Ehle.
A costume worn by Hollywood star Johnny Depp from director Tim Burton’s horror film ‘Sleepy Hollow’ fetched £24,000. A dress worn by musician Madonna while filming “Evita” raised £40,000.
Drew Barrymore’s dress from the Cinderella film “Forever and Ever” sold for £16,000. In addition, there are additional costs for the buyer. Proceeds will be used to support a cultural education foundation founded by Oscar-winning costume designer John Bright. (sda/dpa)
