There are three unfinished skyscrapers in the middle of Los Angeles that have been in ruins since 2019. The $1 billion prestige construction project “Oceanwide Plaza” has been at a standstill since the Chinese investor ran out of money. What was once supposed to be a hotel, luxury apartments and shops is now a 27-story canvas for graffiti since the local scene discovered the place.
While the city council is dissatisfied with the ‘eyesore’, others enjoy the colorful towers that now stand in the middle of the Los Angeles skyline. And an old question arises again. Graffiti: is it vandalism or art?
The three skyscrapers are located directly opposite the “crypto.com” arena, where the Grammy Awards were recently presented, and are therefore in the middle of the city. The plan would have been for them to have 40 floors, making them the tallest residential towers in the Los Angeles skyline. Only 27 floors were completed before construction stopped in 2019. And the painters have done a great job: they have all been sprayed now. This is a thorn in the side of the Los Angeles City Council. He calls on property owners to take action.
The police are taking action – so far with manageable success
The Los Angeles Police Department had already announced measures on social media on February 1. Together with the property management team, they want to prevent other so-called taggers, as sprayers are also called, from entering the property. They also want to remove the graffiti.
Today, Central Division staff met with property management and CD 14 representatives to work together to enhance the security of the property and add additional safety measures. The measures will be implemented immediately and the graffiti will be removed. https://t.co/T1fNxjsB6D

A month later, not much has happened. Just a few days ago, on February 28, several people were again arrested at the site. Graffiti is considered vandalism in the US state of California and can be punished with fines or even prison sentences. Many users on social media believe that the graffiti should be left out. This would make the ruins of the building look more beautiful.
