Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced this on Tuesday on X. One of those arrested was a former police chief, state news agency Anadolu reported, citing security sources.

Turkey has recently stepped up action against suspected Mossad members and spies. Ankara fears that the Israeli secret service is recruiting agents on Turkish soil to attack foreigners.

The Turkish government has ties to the Islamist Hamas, and there are also Hamas officials in the country. Unlike European countries and the United States, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan refuses to classify Hamas as a terrorist organization.
