In the search for two former RAF terrorists, police searched another apartment in Berlin. The measure on Sunday evening in the Friedrichshain district is related to the search for Ernst-Volker Staub (69) and Burkhard Garweg (55), a spokeswoman for the Lower Saxony State Criminal Investigation Department told the German Press Agency. The newspaper ‘Bild’ reported this earlier.
The spokeswoman initially provided no further details when asked. The measure on Grünberger Strasse was still ongoing, she said around 9:30 p.m. There were masked plainclothes police officers and an armored vehicle on the street, most of whom later left, as a dpa reporter noted. Several dozen spectators gathered on the street to watch the events. The front door was guarded by uniformed police officers.
Only about two kilometers away, police had already searched parts of a left-wing alternative caravan site during the RAF search on Sunday morning. A construction trailer container – according to the Lower Saxony LKA Garweg’s suspected accommodation – was removed and will be forensically examined.
Just a few days ago, former RAF terrorist Daniela Klette was also arrested in Berlin. Dust and cooking trails, like Burdock (65), disappeared more than thirty years ago. All three belonged to the third generation of the former left-wing extremist terrorist organization Red Army Faction.
The RAF was the epitome of terror and murder in Germany for decades. In 1998 it declared itself dissolved. During the active terror period of the third generation, the then Deutsche Bank boss Alfred Herrhausen (1989) and Treuhand boss Detlev Karsten Rohwedder (1991) were murdered.
Arrest warrants have been issued for Klette, Staub and Garweg on suspicion of involvement in terrorist attacks. They were or are also wanted for several robberies. They allegedly robbed cash transporters and supermarkets in Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia between 1999 and 2016. They are also charged with attempted murder because there was a shooting.
