Police officers found a man with his genitals cut off in his home in Herne. Neighbors had warned the officers about the semi-detached house, the police and the Bochum Public Prosecution Service announced on Thursday.

“The man’s dog was yapping incessantly and moaning came from the house, which is why they were worried,” police spokesman Frank Lemanis told t-online. On Tuesday evening, officers found the seriously injured man in the house in his blood: his penis and scrotum had disappeared – and could no longer be found in the house.

The 66-year-old was taken to a clinic with serious injuries and his life was initially in danger. His condition is now stable, police said. The man is currently in an induced coma.

Now officials are asking themselves a lot of questions. It is still unclear whether the man may have inflicted the injuries himself or whether he was the victim of a crime. So far, no object has been discovered that could be used to cut off the limb.

It is also unclear whether the penis was cut off, torn off, chopped off or perhaps bitten off. Police spokesperson Lemanis: “We are still waiting for clear results from forensic medicine on this.” The fact that the penis was not in the house also raises the question of whether someone may have taken the penis.

But it is also possible that the crime took place outside the home. According to the police spokesperson, it cannot be completely ruled out that the dog ate the genitals: “It is a very small dog, we consider this option unlikely – but not impossible.”

The police have put together a hit squad. Officials now hope that the 66-year-old will soon feel better and can be brought out of the induced coma. Then we have to wait and see how his body reacts to the reduction of the medication and whether the man remembers what happened.
