This American sailor couple was allegedly murdered by escaped prisoners.

The American couple Kathy Brandel (71) and Ralph Hendry (66) are said to have fallen victim to a gruesome crime in the Caribbean state of Grenada – the police no longer believe they will be found alive.

She assumes that three escaped criminals hijacked the yacht and probably threw the couple, who had been married for 27 years, off board. There is no trace of Brandel and her husband Hendry, Grenada Police Chief Don McKenzie said at a news conference.

Three men escaped from a guard post

According to police, on February 18, three men aged 19, 25 and 30 escaped from custody at a station south of Grenada’s capital, St. George’s. They are accused of a robbery, which they committed with violence in December. One of the men is also accused of rape.

Three days later, last Wednesday, they were arrested in the neighboring island state of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. According to initial findings, the men went there with the catamaran they stole on Monday. They were spotted by residents there, who eventually informed police about the suspicious figures.

It is unlikely that they are both still alive

“The information indicates that they disposed of the occupants during the journey between Grenada and St. Vincent,” McKenzie said. The hope that the Americans are still alive is not given up, even if this is unlikely.

Traces of blood were found on the yacht and the lockers were searched. The man who discovered the abandoned catamaran says: “There was chaos on the ship.”

The couple’s family is collecting donations on the Gofundme website, where they would like to thank everyone who helped in the search. “It means so much to us that so many people cared for Ralph and Kathy as friends and comrades.” (neo)
