A hacking attack took down the website of the airport in the Danish capital Copenhagen on Sunday. The airport announced this this afternoon on its Facebook page. Passengers were encouraged to use a smartphone app to find out more about their journey. According to the airport spokesperson, this is a so-called denial-of-service attack in which websites are overloaded with a large number of requests, reports the Danish news agency Ritzau.
The municipality of Thisted in northwestern Denmark also reported on its Facebook page about a hacker attack that paralyzed its website. There is a small airport in Thisted.
According to the Danish television channel TV Midtvest, Russian hackers were suspected of being behind the attack on the municipality’s website. Accordingly, the airport was likely the real target of the attack, which was described as large-scale. “I don’t think they know what a small airport this is,” TV Midtvest quoted the community spokesperson as saying.
