Police in Paris shot dead an attacker who threatened several officers with a meat cleaver. According to the Public Prosecution Service, a patrol was called to a neighborhood in the east of the French capital on Saturday evening because of the threatening man.
The man, dressed in traditional Muslim garb, ran towards police with his ax raised, despite officers repeatedly using electric shocks.
According to the Public Prosecution Service, four officers then fired a total of approximately twenty shots at the man. According to initial investigations, the killed attacker was from Sudan and was not previously known to the police.
Authorities are investigating attempted murder of the attacker and negligent homicide of the police officers involved. The officers were not injured in the incident, but were taken to hospital in shock. (sda/afp)
