Following media reports about Russia’s alleged new nuclear ambitions in space, US President Joe Biden (81) declared that there was ‘no nuclear threat to the people of America or anywhere else in the world’. Everything Russia does or will do has to do with potentially harmful satellites in space, Biden said Friday when asked at a news conference in Washington.
Moreover, there is no evidence that Moscow has yet decided to implement such a plan. Biden explained that Russia has the ability to launch a system into space that could theoretically cause damage. However, so far this has not happened and he hopes it will continue to do so.
New insights into Russian weapons
Several American media reported on Wednesday about new findings about Russian nuclear capabilities that would target satellites in space and therefore could pose a threat to national and international security. The US government subsequently announced that Russia was developing military capabilities for use against satellites in space. No information was provided on the specific nature of this threat.
When asked at a news conference whether it was a nuclear weapon, a nuclear-powered weapon or a nuclear weapon, National Security Council communications director John Kirby said Thursday he could not go into further detail. (SDA)
