“Shocked and stunned”

What listeners didn’t know was that the 55-year-old must have suffered a heart attack during the song. Gough, who was working from home like the rest of the crew, died at 07:50 local time Monday, the BBC said. Just a few minutes later, the audience heard music again.

The radio station is “shocked and stunned” by the colleague’s death live on the broadcast. James Hazell, an editor-in-chief at GenX Radio, said: “To have known Tim personally, as I have after working closely for 30 years, is to have known a warm, caring and fun man. Our hearts are broken. However, I know that his family finds great comfort in the hundreds of loving messages that have come in.”

Tim Gough’s career began in 1986 with Radio Orwell in Ipswich, UK. He then worked for other stations such as Smooth Radio or Saxon Radio. Meanwhile, he took a very long hiatus from radio before resuming his career with GenX. (t-online/Seb)
