The minister was discharged from the clinic on Tuesday and temporarily worked from home. The politician, who was suffering from prostate cancer, was admitted to hospital on Sunday with an acute bladder problem and transferred to intensive care after a series of tests and examinations. He temporarily transferred his official duties to his deputy Kathleen Hicks. Due to the complications, he canceled his personal participation in important meetings on the war in Ukraine and NATO in Brussels.

The 70-year-old defense minister had been hospitalized for a long time in January due to health problems following prostate surgery and was criticized for initially keeping both his cancer diagnosis and his hospital stay secret. (saw/sda/dpa)
