Three million dollar homes sit on the edge of a cliff in California due to a landslide.

Last Friday, debris and mud plunged nearly 50 meters into the cliff’s precipice as a result of a landslide. The problem: three luxury villas started to sway from the ground up.

These now stand near a precipice at Dana Point in the US state of California. However, no evacuations have yet been ordered, the Daily Mail reports.

But authorities are warning residents to keep a close eye on developments. If the security situation deteriorates, an evacuation may still be possible. The homes are valued at $12.8 million, $13 million and $15.9 million. A veritable pot of gold that will be swallowed up by the Pacific Ocean if the real estate sector actually collapses.

“Everything under control”

However, City Manager Mike Killebrew assured the Orange County Register that the situation is under control. “There are no structures at risk at this time.”

There is also a marine protected area surrounding the houses, which can be accessed from the beach and surrounding paths. The Dana Point Caves are also nearby. These caves have their entrance right next to where the rubble came to rest on Friday morning. As Killebrew reports, there is also no danger to this tourist attraction.

The reason for the landslide is a severe storm that hit the otherwise sunny US state of California. The storm killed three people. The result was landslides, flooded streets, torn trees, damaged houses and destroyed cars. According to the US Weather Service, such storms have not occurred in 150 years. About 710,000 people had to do without electricity on Monday evening.

But the Dana Point cliff landslide is just one of many incidents since the storm. Reports of several landslides along the cliffs in San Clemente, just a few miles away, are leading to road and beach closures. The northern part of the city is particularly affected, the Daily Mail writes. (mgf)
