The trial lasted approximately three and a half years and the verdict has now been handed down. Arafat Abou-Chaker, the former manager of Bushido, gets away with a fine. This amounts to 81,000 euros. This means he avoids a prison sentence. The court did not consider it proven that the suspect wanted to blackmail the rapper into paying millions.
Abou-Chaker was charged with several crimes, including false imprisonment, attempted extortion and grievous bodily harm. His lawyers had asked for an acquittal. The background to the trial was a conflict over the dissolution of business relationships in 2018.
According to the indictment, 47-year-old Arafat did not accept the decision of Bushido, who was two years his junior, and demanded that the rapper pay alleged debts or participate in music companies. In this context, Abou-Chaker is said to have held the musician, who acted as co-plaintiff, against his will, threw a bottle at his head and attacked him with a chair.
After more than a hundred days of litigation, the court did not find sufficient evidence for these allegations; it only convicted Abou-Chaker in 13 cases for breach of confidentiality.
His brothers Rommel, Nasser and Yasser Abou-Chaker were also charged. The former were acquitted and in the case of Yasser Abou-Chaker there was even talk of a prison sentence.
