According to official information, Turkish police have repelled a terrorist attack on a courthouse in Istanbul. The attackers, a woman and a man, were dead, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on platform X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday.
They therefore belonged to the left-wing extremist DHKPC, which had already committed attacks in Turkey in the past. Six people were injured, including three police officers. continued Yerlikaya. He thanked the police officers for their efforts.
Images showed people fleeing into the building in panic, while shots could be heard outside the building. A police helicopter circled above the building.
The courthouse had been the scene of armed attacks in the past. In 2015, a prosecutor was murdered in the courthouse after the DHKPC took him hostage. (saw/sda/dpa)
