In August 2018, Ellie Johnson, 29, started feeling unwell. The then student from Great Britain had a stomach ache. To be sure, she took three pregnancy tests, all of which were negative.

‘I took the contraceptive pill. I took them every day,” the Brit told the Mirror. “I still had my period every month and no bumps or anything like that.” In October 2018 she went to a doctor for the first time. But the examination did not reveal anything there either The doctor suspected that the pain might have something to do with digestion.

“Pain worse than ever”

But the pain didn’t stop. After further visits to the doctor, Johnson decided to undergo an ultrasound. But nothing was discovered in the young woman’s womb.

Johnson had something to eat and then went to bed. However, after a few hours she woke up with extreme stomach and back pain. When she started vomiting, her mother finally called an ambulance, which took her to the emergency room.

The now 29-year-old remembers it well: “I said the pain was very bad and worse than ever, and they put me on my side. Then you saw the baby’s head – and that’s when I knew for the first time that, first, I was pregnant and, second, that I was in labor.”

“There was a little baby face”

The British woman experienced the birth as follows: “I thought I was hallucinating. Then this little bundle was placed next to me and cuddled up to me, and there was a little baby face. That was the first time I really believed this was happening to me.”

It is still not completely clear why the doctors and all the tests could not detect the pregnancy. Ellie suspects that the ultrasound showed nothing anyway because her baby’s back was pressing against her spine. Which would also explain the terrible back pain. (obf)
