The Verdi union has called on Lufthansa ground crews to hold a warning strike at several airports on Wednesday. A spokesperson for Verdi said this early on Monday morning. The Lufthansa locations in Frankfurt/Main, Munich, Hamburg, Berlin and Düsseldorf are affected. “As all ground crews, from maintenance to passenger and aircraft handling, are called for a warning strike, there will likely be major flight cancellations and delays,” Verdi wrote in a statement Monday morning.
The background to the warning strike is the ongoing group-wide collective bargaining for the approximately 250,000 ground employees of Deutsche Lufthansa, Lufthansa Technik and Lufthansa Cargo, among others. Verdi wants to increase the pressure on employers with the warning strike. An offer from employers in the second round of negotiations on February 23 was rejected – for example, increases in steps that were perceived as too low and the term of 36 months.
