After Boris Johnson withdrew from the race for the post of British Prime Minister, some of his prominent supporters have moved to the camp of favorite Rishi Sunak.
Secretary of State James Cleverly wrote on Twitter Monday morning that Sunak had the most experience and could count on his support.
We face major challenges at home and abroad.
I said we needed experience at the top of government and I stand by that.
The candidate with the most experience is clear @RishiSunak.
He can count on my full support as our Prime Minister and I will vote for him.

Former Home Secretary Priti Patel also spoke out in favor of Sunak, having previously backed Johnson.
On Sunday evening, ex-minister Nadhim Zahawi, who made a guest post that same morning promoting the era of “Boris 2.0”, also wrote on Twitter: “A day is a long time in politics. With today’s news, we must turn our attention to Rishi Sunak as our next prime minister.”
A day is long in politics…
Given today’s news, it is clear that we should turn to @RishiSunak to be our next prime minister. Rishi is immensely talented, will have a strong majority in the parliamentary Conservative Party and will have my full support and loyalty.

According to Sky News, MPs Maria Caulfield and Jonathan Gullis have also moved from the Johnson camp to the Sunak camp. According to British media, some 160 Conservative MPs have now spoken publicly in favor of the 42-year-old. Home Secretary Grant Shapps, who is also one of Sunak’s supporters, emphasized in an interview with Sky News on Monday morning that Sunak was relaxed but did not think he had the victory “in his pocket”.
With Boris Johnson out of the running, Secretary of State for Parliamentary Affairs Penny Mordaunt is the only other candidate left. She has only about 25 public supporters, but doesn’t want to give up yet. (aeg/sda/dpa)
