Mafia boss and one of Europe’s most wanted criminals arrested in Corsica Donald Trump fails in his trial in London – it concerns files on sex parties

A mafia boss who has been on the run for almost a year has been arrested on the French island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea. Italian carabinieri and local authorities arrested the man, who is the head of a clan in the southern Italian region of Puglia, in Bastia in northern Corsica.

The public prosecutor of Bari announced this on Friday. The 40-year-old escaped from a maximum security prison in Sardinia last year and has since been on Europol’s wanted list of Europe’s most wanted criminals.

Member of the Sacra Corona Unita

The Italian Marco Raduano leads a powerful clan from the Apulian coastal town of Vieste. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison in Italy for membership of a mafia organization, drug trafficking, illegal possession of weapons and other serious crimes.

He would serve his sentence in Sardinia prison. In 2023, he escaped from prison in a spectacular operation and has since been classified as dangerous by Europol. He is also still being tried for double murder.

Raduano is considered the leader of the Società Foggiana, also known as Mafia Foggiana or “Fifth Mafia”. It is a criminal subgroup of the Sacra Corona Unita, the mafia of Puglia. Outside Italy it is less known than the ‘Ndrangheta in Calabria, the Camorra in Campania and the Cosa Nostra in Sicily.

Helpers captured in Spain

The carabinieri also arrested the mafia boss’s main assistant. Italian and Spanish authorities have tracked down Italian Gianluigi Troiano in the small town of Otura near Granada in southern Spain. Two years ago he escaped house arrest despite an electronic ankle bracelet and has been on the run ever since.

In the fight against organized crime, investigative authorities repeatedly succeed in arresting fugitive mafiosi in Italy and other European countries. Italian Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi welcomed the arrest and praised the cooperation between the countries’ authorities through Europol.
