This is how protests work in France: farmers served wine to drivers during blockades.

French farmers served wine to passing motorists at a blockade post on a highway on the Côte d’Azur. Farmers handed out rosé in plastic cups to drivers at the occupied toll station on the A8 in Fréjus on Thursday, the “Var-Matin” newspaper reported.

Mimosa cocktails and apples were handed out the day before. The atmosphere is relaxed and the drivers honk as a sign of solidarity with the farmers. The gendarmerie monitored the situation.

Wine from plastic cups is irritating

The video shared by the newspaper of the wine being served on the highway was criticized online. «Land of drunkards, no wonder! We have the highest rate of alcoholism in the world, that’s the proof. A glass of rosé and all is well!” wrote user Jean. “I don’t know whether to laugh at this stupidity or bang my head against the wall,” another user commented.

Another believed that it would be bad publicity for the wine sector, which is struggling with declining consumption, to serve wine from the box in plastic cups. “Apart from the obvious road safety issues, they are shooting themselves in the foot: trying rosé from a cardboard box does not invite support to those who make it.”

Also under the eye of the police, farmers raced mini tractors in the closed highway area, “Var-Matin” reported. One video showed farmers in an exuberant mood. (SDA)
