The US will establish a regional CDC office in Panama

In addition, he will work with Panamanian health authorities “to strengthen the country’s health systems” and will bring “CDC’s decades of experience in public health, global health security, and health emergency preparedness and response to its alliance with Panama and the region.” .

The person in charge of this new office is dr. Yoran Grant-Greenean expert with “extensive experience in global health” who serves as director of the regional office for Central America and the Caribbean, the statement said.

“Establishing this regional office for Central America and the Caribbean in Panama is advantageous because of Panama’s strategic geographic location as a regional travel hub and the presence of several critical health organizations with which CDC collaborates,” said Grant-Greene.

This office “strengthens our ability to cooperate and contribute to strengthening health security in the entire regionhe added.

“Experience has shown us the combined effectiveness of bilateral and regional offices, which allows us to strengthen international cooperation in detecting and responding to epidemics,” said the doctor.

There is already a CDC office in Guatemala that will now continue “to be an essential part of CDC’s presence outside the US.” and, together with the new Panama, will work with “local partners to strengthen health systems and workforce capacity in disease management.”
