On the occasion of the special summit of heads of state and government of the European Union, farmers blocked several streets in Brussels. The demonstrators were out in the Belgian capital on Thursday morning with around a thousand tractors and other agricultural machines, police said. Most participants in the protest come from Belgium.
Farmers’ associations in several other EU countries, including Germany and France, have recently protested en masse against agricultural policy and stricter requirements from Brussels. The special EU summit is about an aid package for Ukraine worth 50 billion euros over four years. The Europeans want to protect Ukraine from economic collapse in Russia’s war of aggression. (AFP)
