Germany is on strike. Recently it was railway employees who left their jobs for better working conditions; this Thursday, it will be security personnel at the country’s airports.
The strike is organized by the Verdi union. The outage lasts from early Thursday morning until midnight and affects eleven airports, including Berlin, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Cologne and Stuttgart.
We asked the airlines what this means for Swiss travelers.
Swiss
Swiss confirms that it has been severely affected by the labor dispute. The outbound flights could take place with a few exceptions, but in the opposite direction it looks different:
About 2,900 Swiss passengers from Germany are affected, including about 490 bound for Geneva. However, the flights to Munich would continue as normal.
The press service adds: “For passengers who absolutely have to travel to Zurich tomorrow, we recommend traveling by train or car.”
Lufthansa
Lufthansa is more optimistic. A spokesperson said when Watson asked him:
EasyJet
Upon request, Easyjet announced that the airlines had been asked to cancel some flights during the strike period.
Passengers affected by this will be informed in advance and are entitled to a free rebooking or refund of the ticket price. “We also provide hotel accommodation and meals for our passengers if necessary.”
