The small vehicle makes its way across the frozen ground. It goes over every bump and every furrow with ease. What seems like a fun hobby project is in reality a deadly threat to Putin’s forces.

Ukraine is testing a new weapon in the fight against Russia: so-called ground drones. There has been heavy fighting along the front in the east of the country for months. Already at the beginning of winter, the Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valeri Zalushni (50), established a stalemate. In the new year, Russia is increasingly putting Ukraine on the defensive. Russian forces are said to have made small gains in the area around the disputed cities of Kupyansk and Avdiivka.

Ukrainian ingenuity in the war

Moreover, military aid from the West has recently decreased. Ukrainians are therefore more dependent than ever on their ingenuity in their struggle for survival.

Remote-controlled robot drones are an innovation. They offer a new opportunity to track down Putin’s forces. At the same time, the multifunctional mini vehicles also save the lives of their own soldiers.

This is how a drone operation works on the ground

So they can be used for mine clearance. The ground drones plow through the ground with massive steel chains. If one of the machines hits a mine, a violent explosion will occur. Unlike humans, the blast does not affect the little robots. They can stand upright again on their own and can therefore be used several times.

During offensive operations, ground drones take on multiple tasks. You can place mines on the battlefield or perform kamikaze actions. The quadricycles can be fitted with a tubular opening, allowing a powerful upward explosion effect. Positions protected from air raids can be sensitively hit from below.

A video circulating on social media clearly shows the process of such a drone operation. In the recording, a kamikaze robot covers about four kilometers in enemy territory. The little killer then drives under a railway bridge under which Russian soldiers could have positioned themselves. When it reaches its destination, the robot causes a huge explosion. The Ukrainians can observe the devastating explosive effects of their invention from a safe distance.
