This would have shifted the transport routes. The electric car maker did not provide details about the missing parts when it announced the hiatus more than two weeks ago.

“Due to missing parts, we are therefore forced to suspend vehicle production at the Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg, with the exception of some areas between January 29 and February 11,” the company said. Production will fully resume from February 12.

Since the outbreak of the Gaza war between Israel and Islamist Hamas, Yemen’s Houthi rebels have repeatedly attacked ships with alleged Israeli connections in the Red Sea. The Suez Canal connects the Mediterranean Sea to the Red Sea, providing the shortest sea route between Asia and Europe. Large shipping companies are increasingly avoiding the important trade route because of the attacks. (sda/awp/dpa)
