Gunmen in southeastern Iran shoot dead nine Pakistanis. Fight against extremism: France exposes right-wing radicals with fact checks

Gunmen shot dead nine Pakistani civilians and wounded three others in southeastern Iran. This was announced on Saturday by a spokesperson from the governor’s office of the border province of Sistan and Balochistan, Isna news agency reported. Three perpetrators broke into the Pakistani’s private home in the city of Sarawan on Saturday morning and opened fire. According to the information, the identity of the perpetrators and their motive were still unclear.

According to the Foreign Ministry in Tehran, the incident is not believed to be related to the recent tensions between Iran and Pakistan. “Iran strongly condemns the incident and extends its sincere condolences to the families of the victims,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani wrote on the X platform.

After a devastating attack in Iran in early January, Tehran’s forces attacked targets in Pakistan with drones and missiles. Shortly afterwards, Pakistan also attacked targets in Iran. Both sides said the attacks were carried out by extremists.

Militant separatist groups are active in the border area of the two neighboring states and claim to be fighting for the rights of the Baloch ethnic minority. (sda/dpa)
