Losing your own child is one of the greatest fears of many parents. But not with a couple from Great Britain. Mother Rachel M.* and her husband adopted brothers Freddie and Finn (then 8 and 4) in 2014. At first the new parents were overjoyed. Years later, however, the luck ran out. The couple decided to give up their older brother.

How could it come to this? According to their mother, the brothers had a difficult childhood. At the time of adoption, they had been in care for approximately 18 months. They were taken from their biological parents because they had alcohol problems and the father was violent. There have already been incidents with social workers and the police.

“He has no empathy”

The adoption didn’t make life any easier, at least for Freddie. His behavior quickly became a thorn in the side of his adoptive parents. “In addition to constantly lying, he was quite hyperactive and unpredictable,” M. told the British newspaper “The Sun”. Freddie allegedly behaved like a younger child, throwing tantrums, spitting on other children and urinating in public.

When he entered high school, the situation is said to have worsened. Freddie’s behavior had become confrontational. “He hurt Finn and broke things in the house.” He did not care about the consequences of his actions. M. even says that Freddie “has no empathy, unlike his brother.” Although the parents “tried all parenting techniques,” nothing changed.

“Strange sexual behavior”

Probably the parents’ most serious accusation: Freddie is said to have developed “strange sexual behavior.” M. saw him changing clothes. He then allegedly saw her doing yoga regularly. The mother also says Freddie stole her underwear and lurked outside the bathroom when she went to the toilet. “At some point I realized that he was using every hug as an excuse to run his hands over my chest,” says M.

Ultimately, the parents decided to place Freddie in a foster home, where they initially visited him on weekends. A short time later, regular visits stopped after Freddie made “unfounded false accusations” about M. to get out of trouble at school.

“It almost cost us everything.”

For the parents, the termination of contact was a relief. «I could relax at home without fear of attacks. My relationship with my husband was great again and even Finn seemed to thrive with the attention from mom and dad.”

Out of guilt, the parents wrote Freddie a letter. “We told him that we could only have a relationship if he tried to change.” The couple never received an answer. But at least M. shows no regret or sadness. “Finn is a ray of sunshine in our lives, we love him unconditionally. Freddie, on the other hand, almost cost us everything.” (Mrs)
