Hitman Daria Trepova has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for a fatal bomb attack on a Russian military blogger.

A court in St. Petersburg found the 26-year-old guilty on Thursday of handing blogger Vladlen Tatarsky a statue packed with explosives during an event in April 2023. The explosion killed Tatarsky and injured more than fifty people in a Cafe. The suspect was unharmed.

The court convicted her of a terrorist attack, illegal possession of explosives and forging documents, Russian authorities said. The Public Prosecution Service had demanded 28 years in prison. An accomplice who briefly sheltered her was sentenced to one year and nine months in camp.

“I’m sorry”

Tatarsky was a well-known supporter of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine. His death caused an outcry, as did the murder of Darja Dugina, the daughter of ultranationalist thinker Alexander Dugin, in 2022.

According to the Russian judiciary, the masterminds behind the attack on Tatarsky are based in Ukraine. Among them is a Russian journalist who was also a former member of Russia’s banned National Bolshevik Party.

Trepova largely confirmed what happened during the trial, but confirmed in her closing statement that she knew nothing about the explosives in the statue. “I regret not throwing the statue into the Neva River on the way,” she said, according to the Mediazona portal. (SDA)
