Another mechanical accident has occurred involving a Boeing aircraft. As the New York Post reports, a 757 plane bound for Bogotá, Colombia, lost a wheel shortly before takeoff this weekend.

The Delta Airlines plane was taxiing to its take-off position at Atlanta Airport when the malfunction occurred. Explosive: The fact that the incident was noticed at all was thanks to the pilot of a following aircraft.

“Looks like we have a problem”

The bicycle veered across the runway and rolled down an embankment. The alert pilot immediately informed the tower, according to audio recordings published online. “Hey Tower, the 75 on the runway just lost its front tire.” He then sent a message to the Delta pilot via radio. “Delta 982, this is the plane looking at you. One of your front tires just fell off.” The captain of the plane that broke down replied: “Thanks for that! It sounds like we have a problem.”

The wheel was recovered while a maintenance crew examined the defective Boeing. The plane did not move for about three hours. The 184 passengers were initially required to remain on the plane, but were later transferred to a replacement plane. There were delays on subsequent flights and they were diverted to other runways. “We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience,” Delta said. It is still unclear exactly how the incident occurred.

Angry and disappointed airline bosses

Airplane manufacturer Boeing recently made the news because a piece of the fuselage of an Alaska Airlines plane broke off in mid-air in early January. Alaska Airlines boss Ben Minicucci (57) is still furious more than two weeks after the incident. “I’m angry,” the CEO said. Alaska found loose fasteners at the scene on “many” other Boeing 737-9 Max planes, he added. The Alaska boss did not give an exact number.

Alaska has 65 aircraft of this type. They make up about a fifth of the airline’s fleet. What should also irritate Minicucci: Alaska sold several Airbus planes last year to rely on Boeing.

The head of Alaska’s competitor United Airlines, Scott Kirby (56), also spoke out on Tuesday. Kirby said he was “disappointed” several times on CNBC. He demanded that Boeing finally get its production problems under control.
