Former Prime Minister Sunak wants to become Prime Minister of the UK
The British politician Rishi Sunak wants to become leader of the Conservative Party and thus the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. “We live in a great country, but we are facing a huge economic crisis,” he said.
Sunak was Treasury Secretary in Boris Johnson’s government. After Johnson’s resignation after partygate, he made an unsuccessful attempt to become party leader. He then lost to Liz Truss, who resigned as Prime Minister on Thursday. She was the UK’s longest-serving Prime Minister of all time.
There are now two candidates for the Conservative leadership. Party leader in the House of Commons, Penny Mordaunt, was the first to say she wanted to get involved. However, it does not appear that she already has the obligatory 100 votes from her party’s MPs.
